Our patio's are excavated to a minimum depth of 7 inches and based with a minimum of 4 inches of MOT Type 1 Granite Chippings, as patio's do not have to take any substantial weight there is no need to use a Concrete base as on a driveway. All of our slabwork is laid on a full bed of wet sand & cement mortar (4:1 mix) creating a solid base beneath the slabwork. Once laid the patio is hand pointed with a wet sand and cement mortar (3:1 mix) creating a strong joint that lasts.
